Analysis of nursing effect of plasma exchange on patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the clinical nursing effect of plasma exchange (PE) on patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and explore the related causes prevention and nursing counter measures of common complications,in order to ensure the successful completion of clinical PE treatment.

Methods: The clinical data of 38 NMOSD patients receiving PE in Department ofNeurology, Renji Hospital, Shanghai jiao Tong University School of Medicine, from January 2020 to December 2022 were collected, and the effect of therapeutic PE was analyzed.

Results: All of 38 patients showed varying degrees of relief and improvement in symptoms after 3~5 rounds of PE therapy, Of the 38 patients, 5 had infection, 4 had deep vein thrombosis, 3 had bleeding tendency, and 1 had hypotension.

Conclusion: Mastering proficient PE operation techniques and close observation and nursing throughout the process are the key to ensure the smooth completion of PE.
